No, the state of Wisconsin allows direct access to a doctor of physical therapy without a referral. I will refer you to the appropriate physician if I determine your condition warrants further medical assessment.

Everyone has a pelvic floor, and I warmly welcome all gender identities within my scope of training. However, I do not have advanced training for individuals with a prostate, penis or the related medical conditions that come along with that anatomy. I have foundational training in gender affirming care and would welcome a conversation to assess if that training is suitable to meet your needs. If those needs exceed my training, I can refer you to a provider with the necessary expertise.

When you arrive, you can relax in our waiting space. I will greet you and take you to a private treatment room where I will listen to your story, concerns and goals.

I will then complete a detailed head to toe evaluation. We will review my action plan for achieving your goals. I will send you home with some homework for our next visit and review questions you may have.

While an internal exam provides key information for your treatment and healing, we begin with a thorough history, orthopedic movement assessment and external assessment. An internal exam is completed only if and when you are comfortable. You are welcome to bring a support person if desired.

I often see patients who have had previous pelvic floor therapy. Whether your symptoms are persistent or they have returned, we will work together to find the root cause and sustained relief. A tailored, holistic approach (beyond Kegels!) ensures you achieve lasting results.

We can begin in the first few days following birth for external treatment and assistance with pain management, breath exercises, and guidance on new baby related postures and activities. Internal assessment and treatment begins once you are cleared by your medical provider which is typically around 6 weeks postpartum.

While many women experience pelvic floor dysfunction later in life or as they navigate menopause related changes, you don’t have to suffer through it. It’s never too late to retrain the body and show it a better way to move and work. Wither you’ve had symptoms for weeks or decades, your body is resilient and can change!

Come on in! Menstruation is a normal part of treatment. We can tailor your session for where you are that day. It can also be helpful to see how your body moves and responds at different points in your cycle. Internal treatment is still possible, but it is always your choice of what feels comfortable in the moment.

Babies and children are certainly welcome to appointments should the need arise. While they may distract some of our attention, they often provide opportunities to retrain movement patterns involved with caring for them.
